What is Medicare?

Medicare is the largest health insurance program offered by the U.S. government, serving more than 52 million people. It is run by the Center for Medeicare & Medicaid Services part of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.

Medicare is divided into parts A, B, C, and D. Parts A and B are called "Original Medicare." Part C is referred to as an "Advantage Plan." Part D is a stand alone "Drug Plan." Medicare covers U.S. citizens and legal residents who are 65 and older, those who qualify due to a disability, and those of any age with end-stage renal failure.
